Come with me.

You’ve come to a great place of discovery.

Walking with the Holy Spirit is such a journey, an ever-learning and growing process, a privilege beyond compare. And not to mention trust. This is a journey of trust. Learning to trust God and God, through our obedience, beginning to trust us with his heart. He’s so full of beauty. So full of wisdom.

Just as we are warned to not cast our pearls before swine, I believe the Father will not cast his either. He will wait until our heart is in a place that we can treasure the Pearl he is. And then the trust can begin. As we begin to trust him and he begins to trust us, beauty begins to grow in the garden we are planting together.

On this journey, it is so important that we value what the Holy Spirit is saying and to obey him as well. The more we value his words and the more we obey him in actions, the more he will speak. It’s all about partnership. And we are grateful, Lord.

Since the Word of God is the primary way he speaks, discover the basics on the importance of knowing the Word and other topics here.

In this section you will find stories and insights I’ve gained as I’ve begun to walk in the Spirit. This is not a full-out theological study. There are plenty of folks who are qualified for that. This is simply a lover of God sharing her stories to give you a gentle nudge to seek the Lord and the things of the Spirit for yourself as you walk with him. Everyone’s journey will be a little different because we are all unique children.

The truth is, we are spiritual beings. We are body, soul and spirit. The spirit is where the Holy Spirit lives when we get saved. Yes, everything of the Spirit begins at the cross. Jesus is our access. HE is the door. Our spirit is what is made perfected when we come to Christ. The body and soul have to come into alignment. And it makes sense. We are made in the very image of God. “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 (NLT) So it is important to seek the things of the Spirit and be open to discovering him so we can fully worship the Lord. In spirit and in truth.

It is God’s desire for us to walk in the fullness of him. And to live a supernatural life.

Let’s pray before we start

Holy Spirit, I pray in Jesus’ Name that you would rest on the reader right now. I pray they begin, even now to feel your closeness, your Presence. Lord, silence the enemy and all distractions in Jesus’ Name. Father, as you have revealed your love to me through your precious Holy Spirit, reveal your love to this one reading right now. May the tender love of the Father fill their heart with peace. Also, Holy Spirit, I ask that your fire would begin to burn in this reader for the more of you. The more they always knew was available but was too afraid to ask for. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, amen.

Now, we can begin.

Like a dam that has been opened when the water comes out with power and force, is like the believer when they are baptized with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God immerses them from the inside out and empowers them for effective ministry. We see it in the book of Acts. Peter was totally transformed into a fiery preacher. One whose words cut to the heart and, as a result, many were saved. Rivers of living water began to flow through him. The same will be for you. The water of the Holy Spirit in you when you got saved will begin to flow out of you when you are baptized by the Holy Spirit, for the sake of others as you surrender to him and his desires. Receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit will also empower you to personally walk in victory and to fulfill your God-given destiny. (Prayer at the end)

First question:

Is it needed and it is something God desires for each of us? Yes. The prayer he told us to pray in Matthew 6 is “Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the propellant towards that prayer being answered because it is his power working through you to accelerate the Kingdom. You cannot build the Kingdom without the Spirit of God. “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV)

Read for yourself the desire of the Lord

And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions.” Joel 2:28 (NKJV)

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.  Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”  Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” John 7:37-39 (NKJV)

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)

So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:9-13 (NKJV)

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:4-5 (NKJV)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NLT)

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:1-4 (NKJV)

The result? Power. Power to preach. Power to heal. Power to move in the signs for the advancing of the Kingdom. Read Acts. You’ll enjoy it. It’s intense.

Second question:

Is speaking in tongues part of the baptism of the Holy Spirit? Yes. We see examples in scripture and the testimony of millions which have received this gift after being baptized with the Holy Spirit. Although the enemy has twisted and distorted things regarding this, it is nothing to fear and nothing to shun. Speaking in tongues is such a holy act. It is the Holy Spirit himself who gives us his language, speaking to God through our surrendered tongue. This bypasses our intellect as our spirit speaks to God through the language the Holy Spirit gives us.

Third question:

Do all believers who have been baptized by the Holy Spirit speak in tongues? I believe there is grace for every believer that has been baptized by the Holy Spirit to receive what some call their “prayer language.” To answer the question, most do but some don’t. Sometimes it is a matter of not wanting to surrender your tongue and be willing to feel silly for a moment. Some have other fears. And some have been taught it’s wrong. But can a GIFT from God be wrong? There is much debate on the subject and I will not make it an issue. Perhaps it has been misused by others in your life to where you think of it as putrid, but there are MANY benefits to surrendering to the Lord in this way. I have personally seen tremendous change in my own life as I have surrendered my tongue to the Lord and allow myself to partner with God in prayer. I myself do speak in a prayer language to the Lord and also sing in the spirit often, as mentioned in the Worship section on the grow in faith page. To read, click here.

The Bottomline:

If God is wanting to give you something and Jesus himself was so excited that this gift was going to be given to the church, why would we not want it? Why would we not want something he wants to give us? Why would we put our noses up in the air and scoff as if we know what is best for us? God is Spirit, so surely, he understands the things of the spirit. He is Father. And our Father knows what’s best for his children. He knows what will lead them to victory and what could cause defeat. THIS will lead you to victory. Because the Spirit of God, who wants to pray through you, will go straight the heart of the Father for you and whomever else you are praying for when you pray in the Spirit. How cool is that? He takes the fast track. Bypasses our minds and intellect so our flesh doesn’t get in the way and goes straight to heaven without having to convince us. It is elevator up. No distractions. Only God’s will being prayed. Not to mention receiving the power to accomplish his will in your life and be used in a mighty way to slay giants in the land. Glory to God.

So, are you ready? Because we are about to pray. And what happens when we pray? Things change. Your heart has been searching and wondering. You need this. You want this. You’re surrendered. So, it’s time.

First, let me pray for you

Holy Spirit, I thank you for what you’ve done in my life through the power of the cross. I thank you that everything begins with Jesus. He is the door. By his grace, I have entered in through his blood. Now, Holy Spirit, the transformation you’ve done in me, I ask you do it again. Again, Lord. Come with your power. Fill the place where this reader is right now and come rest on them as they open their mouth and surrender to the power of the Holy Ghost coming on them right now. Glory to God. We praise you Jesus, amen. Amen and amen.

Now lift your hands where you are and pray –

Holy Spirit, fall on me. I want you to empower me. I’ve trusted Jesus as my Savior and Lord, now I want to live in the fullness of God. Thank you for loving me. I surrender my life wholly and completely to you. Everything is yours, including my tongue. Holy Spirit, give me language to pray in the Spirit and transform my life to walk in power. I want to see your Kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I want to partner with you. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, amen.

Now wait. Surrender your tongue and say whatever is not your known language. He will give you an utterance. But you’ve got to surrender your tongue to him. It may just be a word or two. You may feel heat, like fire coming on you. That’s good. That’s the Holy Spirit cleansing you and empowering you. You may feel shaking. When our human bodies encounter the Living God there is often a physical response to his Presence. You may cry. You may laugh. Just yield to the Spirit. You may feel nothing, but by faith we receive. He’s so wonderful.

If you’ve just received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, WOW!! Hallelujah. Please tell us and we can rejoice with you! Click here.

Now, this is the beginning of many things in the spirit. Keep reading, I’ve got some entries to spur you on below.

The anointing of the Holy Spirit for healing is beautiful. I’ve been the recipient and, by the grace of God, been the hands he flowed through. All believers all called to have faith in the Word of God and believe what Jesus said in Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV) “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Love is the foundation for the healing of God. God is love. And his heart is for healing. (Activation prayer at end)

Before the baptism of the Holy Spirit, although I had walked with Lord since I was nine years old, I did not have true concept of how much God loved me, much less how much he loved others. As many things began to shed off my life from that moment on, God began to shed light into the part of my heart that was called unbelief. I was not one that you would find praying for someone’s healing. Comfort, yes. But healing, not so much. It was more of an attitude of, “Oh, that’s sad. God comfort them.” I didn’t think God was too concerned about healing them. I thought he only was concerned about where they would spend eternity. I didn’t have a destiny mindset and awareness of how much the enemy throws at us to detour us from walking in our destinies. But, as I began to walk in the Spirit, he began to fill me with love. Showing me how much he loved me and how much he loved others. And, come to find out, his desire for healing is a part of that love.

Now, I know there is such a thing, and it is beautiful to watch the Lord work through surrendered vessels. My mind quickly came into agreement with the Spirit of God concerning healing after a few personal encounters with the Lord. One major one, happened at our new church. I had been struggling with an undiagnosed stomach issue, which was causing me to make plans accordingly, including booking a room closer to a conference room at a retreat center with my former church. Shortly after that, I was at a special event at our new church. Our pastor’s brother has an international ministry and he was giving the message that day. As I sat there, my stomach began to heat up. It was hot. Thankfully, I had recently read a book on healing and by faith I associated the heat with healing from the Lord. Soon after, the pastor asked all the leaders in the church to come up to the front. As I made it up there, I was trembling under the anointing and his brother called me up. I could feel the Presence of God all over me. He looked and me and said, “The Lord heals all your infirmities.” No one knew that and to my knowledge, I was the only one he prayed healing over. After he sang over me, I went down under the power of the Spirit with the gentlest breeze that blew over me. As I laid there, I believed by faith I was healed. Today, I do not make plans accordingly. God has healed me and I am grateful! Do it again, Lord.

From that day, my outlooked changed. What could I see? Love. God showed me love that day. And he was filling me with love as I began to ask him “to know this love that surpasses knowledge.” Ephesians 3:19 (NIV 1984) I had had a lot of bible teaching growing up, but I truly wanted to know this Jesus. I wanted to know God who is love. Not just know about him. As I began to walk with him, I began to notice people more. To hear them. To notice sick people. My heart began to soften and hear for the first time. And the Lord began to use me to pray for people. To pray for healing and not only comfort. The more of God.

As I pray in person or in my prayer closet, at times my hands will heat up. They will get red and I know the Lord is wanting to heal someone. Why? Love. Because God is love, remember? Sometimes they don’t. Sometimes I use anointing oil. And sometimes I don’t. Sometimes, I’ll feel a pain in my body briefly and I pray for that particular part. I’ve seen infection on the eyes be healed, headaches go, hair grow back, people go home from the hospital, mental health restored, a polyp disappear when the doctors went in to remove during surgery, and even pets healed. God is good. And he is faithful to his Word. Always stand on his Word. He’ll back you up. But the main thing, is love. Stay in love with Jesus. And you will know his heart for you, and he will share his heart for others.

Let me pray for you –

Heavenly Father, I thank you that you are good. I thank you for the reader who is open and hungry to know you and be used by you. I pray now, that they would grow closer to you and to discover your love in a fuller way. And out of that growth of love, that the healing anointing would flow from them. That you would use them in a MIGHTY way, for the saving of many souls. Expand your kingdom through them. Let their heart say, “I’ve tasted and seen that the Lord is good.” Hallelujah. Our God be praised. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Prayer this prayer over yourself

(Hold your hands out in front of you)

Father, I want to be used by you. Fill me with your love and teach me your ways so I can walk in them. Rescue many people from the grip of death with these hands. Show many people the mercy of God through these hands. I give you my life, my body, my will. I lay them down on the altar. Take everything and use me to heal. Now, Lord, let the anointing of the Holy Spirit fall on me for the gifts of healing. (1 Corinthians 12:9) In Jesus Mighty Name I pray, amen.

Yes!! I can’t wait to hear your testimony/testimonies! Glory, hallelujah! Contact us here.

Seeing in the Spirit has a lot of different meanings. Ephesians 1:18 (NKJV) talks about “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” Other translations say the eyes of your “heart.” Seeing in the Spirit falls under the category of the Spirit of Prophesy. Many times, the Lord will use something you “see” to help you speak into a situation and pray. Some that operate in this take the “elevator,” as James Goll calls it. They begin to see full out visions and colors, etc. For most others, it is a faith gift that grows in time and increases as you walk in closer relationship with the Lord. Tending your garden of love together. (Activation prayer at end)

Wow. The first time I began to see pictures, I was really taken by surprise. I never knew the Lord spoke to people this way and I can say I am grateful for those who have gone before me and written some books to give me Biblical foundation for these supernatural encounters. God has a lot to say. God has a lot to accomplish. And like Moses, we can be his friends. To know his heart and to pray his heart for others. That’s the point. To know God and be used by him. He’s like us. He only tells his true friends his secrets. And to be trusted by God. Is there any greater thing?

The ability to see in the Spirit comes from the Lord. EVERYTHING means something to God. Although there are a few ways believers see with their spiritual, always remember it is Holy Spirit communicating a message to us. And since we want to know his heart, we ask him questions. Some ways people see in the spirit are visions, open visions, flash pictures, literally seeing an angel or demon, colors, etc. The Presence of Angels section is below. Some see these things with their eyes closed. Some see these things with their eyes open. Oftentimes it is very subtle and happens fast. Pray for your spirit to be in tune and aware. Dreams are also a way God speaks to people. I love being around my seer friends. It is quite amazing, encouraging and edifying. Also, at times these things can reveal strategies of how to overcome an obstacle one is facing.

To Prophesy – One time at church, we had a prophet come. And right before he prophesied over my husband and I, he said as his eyes were closed, “Hold on, I’m just waiting for a pic to finish that the Lord is showing me.” Wow. And as we received our word from the Lord, the prophet was able to minister from the pictures that he was shown by the Lord, and they were so accurate and on point. The word brought healing and hope and vision. He is a friend of God.

Another time, during the year of COVID, it was rough time for many businesses. My husband has a small business that God has been so good to us over the years. Since work was hard to find, I began to pray for them. The Lord showed me a picture. It was two hands raised to the sky and bills falling down. Money. Falling from the sky. I took that as a promise from the Lord and prophesied from that vision that we would have finances from heaven as we trusted in him and surrendered. What happened? True to the word of the Lord, not only was the business fine at the end of the year and was able to keep all their employees, they also turned a profit. To the glory of God the Father.

To Pray This is the main way the Lord uses this gift in me. So many times, I will see people’s faces flash before me. Friends, family members, celebrities, the President. Most of the time I take them to the Lord in prayer only and sometimes I text or call them to ask how I can pray for them. They are usually surprised, because more time than naught, they do have prayer need that others did not know about. God is awesome.

In person, as I pray with people, often I will get a picture or pictures and, coupled with the Word of God, I used those to pray as the Holy Spirit guides me with his thoughts regarding the situation. Knowing the Word of God is vital so that we are able to rightly discern what the picture means. Sometimes, if ministering with a team it is so beautiful what the Lord shows us. Because the pictures come from the heart of the Father, when these things are spoken over the person, there are often tears, joy, burdens lifted, healing, repentance and forgiveness. All of these things are from heaven. Hallelujah. We give you glory.

To Encourage There are times that a picture is given to affirm someone and encourage them. I have received pictures in the Spirit that have given others hope for something they have been praying for, i.e. of their family members, or personal pictures of themselves in a place of victory. These uplift and build up, to encourage them to keep running the race before them. That is a beautiful gift from the Father.

To Fall in Love This type of picture is given to the Beloved. Song of Songs 6:3 (KJV) says “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.” We are so loved by God and sometimes Holy Spirit just wants to love on you. To show you who you are to him and show you he knows what is dear to your heart. These types of pictures/visions/dreams communicate by drawing us into the Bridegroom’s heart and prepares us for times of greater intimacy as it develops the foundation of trust and love between you and Jesus. These are the things that are held so close to the heart that they are tucked away to be treasured between you and him. Oftentimes, these are not shared with anyone because it happens in the “bridal chamber” between you and Jesus. On the mountaintop. Together. We are the bride of Christ and these things bring us into oneness with him.

Other Reasons – The Holy Spirit also uses this gift to give a word of warning, to prophesy a future event, or to give you clear direction and insight into what is going on in your life that otherwise you would not have known. This kind of communication is often accompanied with action in prayer and a tool for spiritual warfare. To give us the victory.

There is much importance to keeping our heart pure before the Lord. This includes what we take into ourselves through our eyes. We can ask him to “Create in me a clean heart, O God” Psalm 51:10a (NKJV) and to “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV) Our eyes are considered gates or portals into souls. We must be conscious of what we allow our eyes to see because the Holy Spirit lives in us and we do not want to grieve him. In the sermon on the mount, Jesus says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8 (NKJV) When we open ourselves to be purified by the Lord, we will need to sit before him and repent of things we’ve seen and have allowed into our heart. Ask him to cleanse your eye gate and commit that part of your body to him in order to be used for his glory. Consecrate yourself to him. For his purpose, for his Kingdom.

Pray the prayer from Ephesians over yourself (personalize it) –

And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (God’s people),” Ephesians 1:18 (AMP)

Now, let me pray for you

God, it is a joy to know you more and be used by you. Truly, it is the most thrilling and rewarding things that this life has to offer. We are spiritual beings and made in your image. We honor how you speak to us.

Father, I lift up this reader right now. I pray the Spirit of Holiness rest upon them. I pray you give them faith to see in the Spirit. I thank you that as they begin to grow and spend time at your feet, the trust will increase between the two of you. Sanctify this reader and set them apart for your glory. Let your light shine through them.

(Place your hands besides your eyes)

Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask that the oil of the Holy Spirit cover this readers’ eyes. Purify the eyes of their heart. Clean them. Burn away all the impurities from the past. Make this portal clean, to be used only for your glory. Now, Father, let them see as Jesus saw and do what you show them to do. (John 5:19-20) I ask the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding be released over them now. And also for the Spirit of Revelation. Use this vessel that is set apart for your glory. Teach this reader your ways so they can walk in them. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Glory to God! I’m so excited for you. Take your time. The journey is long and beautiful. If you just encountered the Holy Spirit, we’d love to hear. Share your story here.

I chose this picture of still water and a person standing still because that is where it began with me. After the Lord baptized me in the Holy Spirit, he began to press this scripture into me – “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10 (NKJV) To be still, as with so many people in this world, was not my best attribute. But in the stillness, an awareness of Immanuel being right there with me, the Lord began to open up my spiritual senses. This began as pure discovery. I began to feel the tangible, manifest Presence of God for the first time in my life. I cannot put into words, without falling short, of how my heart felt. As I began to grow in love, I discovered there were many more reasons for the Lord to reveal himself in these ways. It is to show us love, but it is also for us to walk in discernment. To be able to discern good from evil. And to be used on a greater scale for establishing the Kingdom. We see it here in Hebrews 5:14 (NKJV) – “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” As we mature in Christ and use the gifts he gives us, we will grow in our discernment and begin to be able to sense both good and evil in the spirit realm. For the use of prayer and warfare. To establish the Kingdom. (Activation prayer at end)

What is the tangible Presence of God? And how can you experience this. Let’s first define tangible. Tangible means: “perceptible by the senses, especially the sense of touch.” The Word tells us that God is spirit. (John 4:24) So, how can we feel his Spirit? It happens when he manifests himself. Oftentimes, this is when we are still, both physically and when we have stilled ourselves in our mind and soul. When we have fixed our eyes on Jesus and set our minds on things above. Remember, there is always purpose to God revealing himself. So, it’s good to ask him questions. “What does this mean?” “Where is this in your Word?” “What are you saying?” When the Lord chooses to make himself known in a room of believers, (i.e. during worship, prayer, or even just while sharing stories of his glory) oftentimes he can be physically felt or strongly sensed. The sensations are various and all fall in line with the Word of God.

  • Heat – The feeling of heat or burning in you or on you. Indicates the closeness of God. Given to purify, sanctify, make one holy and consecrated. Could indicate healing.
    • For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29 (NKJV)
    • I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” Matthew 3:11 (NLT)
  • Weight – The feeling of heaviness on you. The Hebrew word for glory, as it refers to God, is kabod. And the most common translation for that means “weight.”
    • For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NKJV)
    • Indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.” 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 (NKJV)
    • But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.” Psalm 3:3
    • See tools to study Bible verses in the grow in faith section here.
  • Shaking/Trembling – The physical sensation of shaking or tremble. May be subtle, may be more pronounced. A few reasons this encounter could occur: 1) You are in the Presence of Almighty God and are experiencing his holiness, 2) You are experiencing the fear of the Lord, 3) You are being anointed by God, 4) Other, because God is God.
    • Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!” Psalm 96:9 (NIV)
    • Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling.” Psalm 2:11
  • Tingling/goose bumps – At times this feels like the Spirit of God is washing over you or resting on you. Like a refreshment. Other times, in my life, he has used it to affirm what another person is saying to me.
    • Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.  I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” Ezekiel 36:25-27 (NKJV)
    • For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring.” Isaiah 44:3 (NKJV)
  • Electricity – The feeling of electricity flowing through or coming upon someone is the power of God.
    • And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.” Revelation 4:5 (NJKV)
    • We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy.” Colossians 1:11 (NLT)
    • Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.” Luke 10:19 (AMPC)
  • Oil – The sensation of warm oil being poured over you or into you. This symbolizes the anointing of the Lord and is an indication of one being set apart for service to the Lord.
    • But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.” Psalm 92:10 (NKJV)
    • Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.” 1 Samuel 16:3 (NKJV)

This is one of the most beautiful things. To accurately discern the voice of the Lord. It takes training and one of the most humbling encounters to know the God of all the universe just spoke to you. I have said before that the “smallness” of God makes him big to me. The still, small voice is even more intriguing than the awe of his thunder and lightnings. Because he comes so close to speak. It is our privilege to hear and respond.

The Voice of God

I remember the first time I knew without a doubt that I had heard the voice of the Lord accurately. It was shortly after I have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and I was in my closet praying for a friend. I heard the Lord tell me to go and get a specific devotional book I had not read in quite a long time. I hesitated because my husband was sleeping in the bedroom and I didn’t want to wake him. But I knew I had heard the Lord. So, I got out a flashlight, tip-toed into the bedroom and got it off the shelf. When I opened it up to that day’s devotional, I sat there and cried and trembled before the Lord because it addressed exactly what I had been praying about for me friend. I was in awe. I had heard the Lord accurately. He had spoken to my spirit.

The Lord was beginning something new in me. A new trust. A new hunger. A new awareness. On this journey, I have found there are a few factors that play into hearing the voice of God. Submission, consecration, knowing his Word, child-like faith, trust and a genuine desire to know him, no matter what he has to say. Once our ears are open to hear the things of the Spirit, heaven can speak.

I will give you a few examples of things I’ve heard in the Spirit.

Oftentimes, the Lord loves to speak when I am drifting off to sleep or especially right as I am waking up. I try and be diligent to write down what he says when he says it, otherwise I will forget, and that’s sad. It is a beautiful thing when the Lord speaks, and we want to honor him. I have not heard the audible voice of God, but I am looking forward to hearing his voice one day. I believe that I will.

He will often speak scripture. Phrases or references. These are like treasures to me. Something to hunt. Something to value. Because they will usually connect with another thing I see or hear soon, whether it is for me or for someone else. One day, I found myself waking up and quoting his Word back to him. Saying “You have loved me with an everlasting love” as if my spirit had been praying and communing with him all night. “The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.’” Jeremiah 31:3 (NKJV). Other times he speaks phrases, single words, or a longer sentence, or paragraph. It’s important to get a pen and start writing.

The Lord will always confirm a word. He will send someone, something that will affirm the word you received from him. Remember, everything the Lord says and does has purpose. He doesn’t speak to just hear himself talk. He creates when he speaks. He created the world with his words, remember? He’s careful with his words.

This is one of my first verses to memorize and pray regarding hearing the Lord and it comes with a promise. “Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.” Isaiah 55:3 (NKJV)

A word of wisdom – everything is not to tell everyone. You must ask the Lord if you have his permission to share a word because it is his secret in the first place. And we want to honor him. This is especially difficult at times when we really want to share. And I have made mistakes and shared too early and should have waited on the Lord. I’m sorry Lord. Why wait? It gives you time to process with the Lord. He most likely will give you more insight and perhaps correct your interpretation so it comes into alignment with intentions. There are of course exceptions, including if you are in a setting of prayer and he is releasing a word through you, then, yes for sure, partner with the Lord.

The Sounds of Heaven

Once our spiritual ears open up, we can begin to hear in the spirit. There is purpose in everything God allows. I have heard the sound of a beautiful orchestra, the sound of a large drop of water falling what sounded like into a well, knocking, and the change of frequencies. I know others that have heard baby cries, the sound of a man speaking loudly but unable to make out the words, the sound of rushing waters, etc. There are numerous sounds in the spirit not mentioned here but we press in and ask for the more as God allows. He is so wonderful to invite us in through the Door, Jesus Christ. Everything goes through Jesus and must fall in line with scripture. The throne room, as described in Revelation 4, is quite the stimulation as far as all the senses go and is by far not a quiet place!

Is that a thing? Can someone really smell in the spirit? It is a thing. Just like we can feel or sense the Presence of God, hear the voice of God, see the things of God, we can smell him too. Being able to discern what is happening around us. I know, your eyebrows are raised. As you read, keep in mind Hebrews 5:14b (NKJV) “those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” I’m not here to convince you. That is Holy Spirit’s job.

First, let’s establish truth. God smells. And we are made in his image.

  • God smells and he loves to smell our prayers. They are incense to him. “When He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” Revelation 5:8 (NKJV)
  • Our offerings and sacrifices smell good to God. See Numbers 15.
  • Our witness smells good to God. “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?” 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 (NKJV)
    • This happened once when I sat with someone as they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The fire of God fell, they begin to speak in tongues and then asked, “Kathleen, do you have perfume on?” I said no. But in the spirit, the aroma of Christ was coming out of me. It’s too much, really. God is amazing.
  • Our love smells good to God. “How satisfying to me, my equal, my bride. Your love is my finest wine—intoxicating and thrilling. And your sweet, perfumed praises—so exotic, so pleasing. Your loving words are like the honeycomb to me; your tongue releases milk and honey, for I find the promised land flowing within you. The fragrance of your worshiping love surrounds you with scented robes of white.” Song of Songs 4:10-11 (TPT)

Smelling in the natural is something we do all the time. We smell a skunk on the road, we smell a cake baking in the oven, we smell popcorn that’s been burned or a grill cooking bar-b-que. Those smells allow us to know what is going on around us. This is similar to the way the Holy Spirit will speak to us, letting us know what is going on around us. It falls under discernment.

Smells are intimate as well. Everyone has a unique smell to them, just as we have been given unique fingerprints. If you have ever lost someone close to you, perhaps you remember how their clothes or bedding still carries their smell, which can bring comfort. To be able to smell someone means you are in close proximity to them. To smell the Lord is the same way. He shows himself to be Immanuel. God with us. Close.

It is hard to put into words how I felt the very first time I experienced this. I was walking into my closet for prayer, had not even gotten settled yet, but all of the sudden the smell of Rose of Sharon was in the room. I sat there. Stunned. In shock. Crying. Because the love that came with it was overwhelming. It is actually too beautiful to write on the web where just anyone can read about. However, I write this because I know he is real and I know he desires to have VERY close fellowship with his church, the Bride, that is why I am willing to share because these are the intimate moments he wants to share with you too. Close. He was so close I could smell him. The smell wafted in and out, strong and lite, for about an hour. That was it. I was wrecked.

So, along the way, because this is a journey, I have discovered a few things. He has used that same smell to affirm me of his Presence while making big decisions, like choosing our church or meeting with new friends. He comes like that to just love on me as we spend time together reading or as I work. At my prior job, I had an area in the front since I was the front receptionist. I had worship music on and often prayed as I worked. There were many times that someone would come in and say, “Oh, it smells so good in here.” I’d say, “Oh, yeah, what does it smell like?” They would often say, “It smells like roses and perfume.” We had no Scentsy on. I just smiled. Because the Presence of God was there with me. In normal, everyday life.

I have stopped wearing perfume and rarely use scented things at the house because it is my joy to have him near, and I want to know it’s him and not me. The journey can be quite amusing though as you begin to walk in this because, yes, just like all the gifts we get it wrong sometimes. Like, “Oh, that’s my husband’s deodorant not Jesus.” Ha! But Jesus loves us and laughs with us.

Recently, my daughter came into my room after I had been writing for quite some time, and said, “It smells so good in here.” I said, “Oh, that’s Jesus. He’s been here all day with me.” Makes me smile. Child-like faith. That pleases the Father.

Similar to how certain colors mean certain things, certain smells in the spirit mean certain things. They all have meaning. Holy Spirit guides us into all truth, so he will teach you. I have used this list often to help me discern. Sometimes it is for relationship, sometimes it is for prayer and sometimes is for encouragement. Other times, however, it is urgent when he speaks. Like one time, I smelled smoke when I went into our bedroom while someone was visiting. I literally thought there was a fire. I went into the living room to get my husband. I took him into our bedroom and said, “Do you smell that? Something is burning!” He took a lot of deep breaths. He could not smell it. I said, “I guess it’s in the spirit.” And that prompted me to pray in the spirit. Come to find out later, someone had been in a life-or-death situation and, unknowingly at the time, God had used me to intercede on their behalf.

One time, I remember going to a fancy show and for some reason I just wasn’t connecting. So, I prayed, “Jesus, you want to talk?” This smell came and I asked him, “What smell is that?” He said, “Cassia.” It was strong and intense. I just sat there and enjoyed the fellowship. Later I looked it up and found it in Psalm 45. “All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.” Psalm 45:8 (NKJV) He is so beautiful.

There are many more stories, but I will keep it at this for now. Also, know that smells will allow you to discern evil as well. So, be on guard and partner with the Holy Spirit to accomplish his kingdom plans. There is kingdom work all around.

If you want to be activated, let me pray for you

Father, I count it a privilege to pray for this reader right now. I thank you that they are open to knowing you more and learning to walk with you in a deeper way. There’s so much more! Thank you for this invitation, Jesus. We go through you, the Door.

Father, in the Name of Jesus, I pray you touch the reader right now. Activate their spiritual senses of feeling, hearing and smelling. I thank you that, even now, things shift. Glory. Even now, things change. We give you praise and we give you thanks. Release the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding over them and do not let them experiment with any darkness or be deceived in any way. Holy Spirit, keep them pure. Anoint them now, set apart for your service.

Pray for yourself –

(Hold your hands out) Holy Spirit, I want to feel when you are near.

(Place your hands on your ears) I want to hear when you are near.

(Place your hand on your nose) I want to smell when you are near.

God, I give you my body, my ears and my nose. This is my prayer: Show me your glory, Lord. I want to partner with you. Teach me how to discern both good and evil. And use me to pray your will through these experiences. I will be one to work in your field. “Then He said to His disciples, ‘”The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.'” Matthew 9:37 (NKJV) I am at your service Lord. I want to grow in love with you. Thank you for you using me. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Glory to God! We serve a mighty God! It’s going to be a whole new world. Let us know here if you’ve just encountered the Lord.

Wow, okay. You’ve been through a lot of sections with stories and activations, and you’ve made it this far. I’m so proud of you and so, so excited to see what the Lord does with your life. Yes, YOUR life! This is a fun section that caught me by surprise. The closer I have grown to the Lord, the more aware I have become to the activity of angels. Angels are seen everywhere in the bible, encountering people. Angels are God’s messengers and ministering spirits for those that will inherit salvation. (See Acts 11:13 and Hebrews 1:14) And they are still active today. They are activated by the voice of the Lord, his Word. “Bless the Lord, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure.” Psalm 103:20-21 (NKJV) Angels love to worship the Lord. (See Nehemiah 9:6) So, when you worship the Lord, they will worship with you. Since the enemy is deceiving, we must approach this with caution, but the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. In the section below I am specifically referring to holy angels of God, not fallen angels. An important emphasis – we do NOT worship angels. They are created just as humans are. (See Colossians 1:16) God is the Creator. We worship God alone. We can partner with angels to see the will of the Lord come to pass. Remember. You signed up for adventure, to go up the mountain of the Lord. Don’t be afraid. The Lord is with us. So, come, let’s go on a quick treasure hunt together. (Activation prayer at end)

We live in a supernatural world more than we realize. There are many things happening around us that we are unaware of, including the ministry of angels. I have been blessed to be with some precious believers whose spiritual eyes have been opened to a great degree and they are able to testify to the activity around us. It is very awe inspiring. And the Holy Spirit in me bore witness to what they were saying, so by faith, I received it and agreed with the Lord in prayer.

During the revelation Jacob received in Genesis, God shows us how angels work and is later affirmed in the ministry of Christ.

  • Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” Genesis 28:12 (NKJV)
  • And He said to him, ‘”Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.’” John 1:51 (NKJV)

Remember, everything is for a purpose. God always reveals for purpose. To accomplish something, to set someone free, to intercept something before it happens. Learning to walk in the Spirit, is part of our training to partner with God. There are various ways the Lord shows us his holy angels. Here’s a few stories.

Through Others

My father passed away last year, in 2020, after they operated on a kidney stone. Although it was not a fun time, the Lord was so incredibly gracious to us in many ways, including being able to visit and stay overnight with him the night before he went to be with the Lord. He was 80. Seven years prior, he had become a believer shortly after my mom passed away. During the last few days of his life, I took notes as he had encounters in the room. The mercy of the Lord was so beautiful.

Even though he had little to no strength, at times he would sit up abruptly with the look of awe on his face as he watched something go across the room on the “ceiling.” I did not want to interrupt as he was seeing into the heavenly realm. He mentioned four doors he saw. At one point, since he was seeing angels in the spirit realm, he caught eyes with me and got startled I was standing there. He asked, “When did you all get here?” I said, “It’s only me. I’ve been here for about thirty minutes.” Then he said, “Who’s the man standing behind you?” Whoa. I turned around slowly but could not see anyone. I looked back at my dad and said, “Is it Jesus?” He smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said with a grin, “I don’t know.” More and more and more. He gazed in awe. Whatever he was seeing must have been wonderful. His jaw was literally dropped. But in those moments that could have been devasting, the beauty of the Lord was so present that all I could do was rejoice and let him enjoy the things of God as the veil had been removed to see his true home. I am grateful to the Lord and his tender mercies. Side note word of encouragement: Keep praying. My mom’s prayers for his salvation did not get answered until after she had died. But God, right?! He’s so good!

Another example was when one day a group of friends were praying, and I had heard from the Lord to embrace one of the ladies and hug her from the Lord. As we sat on the floor and her head on my chest while the Lord ministered to her, one of our friends told us later that she saw an angel behind us, covering us. That is so beautiful and encouraging to know you are on the right track hearing from the Lord. I am grateful she shared her gift to see in the spirit with us. It was edifying.

Signs of Angels –

When I first began my journey after the baptism of the Holy Spirit, everything changed and I was becoming more sensitive and aware to the spirit realm. One day at our former church, the sound system was being wonky and there was a rough patch of communication between team members. While that was being settled, I reached over and said to the other singer, “Let’s pray.” We prayed and shortly things turned around but right after we prayed, I opened my eyes. Laying down on the ground at the base of the music stand was a LARGE white feather. I picked it up. She turned around and with the look of surprise said, “Where did you get that?!” I chuckled and said, “I just picked it up from right there after we prayed.” I was just as surprised. I believe an angel was with us. And I totally still have that.

Once I was caring for my sister’s house and small, elderly dog while they were away for vacation. He was very ill and I had prayed he would make it til they returned home. I did not want him to die before they got to say goodbye. I had told her there was an angel there with him, since the Lord had let me see a blue flash of light right above his head. On the second to last day before their return while heading back in from outside, I looked in the bedroom as I walked past as I always did. I looked, kept walking, stopped, then went back. Had someone sat on her bed? On her side and laid on her pillow? I called to see if anyone had been there that I didn’t know about. No one had been in her room. What happened? I believe the Lord had sent his angel to watch over her dog so he could make it through and I, by the grace of God I was able to notice. Psalm 91:11 says, “For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.” I believe this was one way the Father was showing his love to them.

Flashes of Light –

As your spiritual eyes begin to open up and you stay close to the Lord through prayer, worship and the Word he will begin to show you more. Oftentimes, it is in response to asking in prayer. He encourages us to ask and we shall receive.

There are many times, I will see a flash of light from the corner of my eye, directly in front on me, on the pages of my bible or on an object. That indicate to me that there is an angel in the room with purpose. Perhaps to worship, perhaps to bring revelation, perhaps to heal, perhaps to comfort? Ask the Holy Spirit. The flashes I’ve seen have been white, silver, gold, red, or blue but I’m sure there are more colors others have seen.

Angels Seen –

The other day, I had just gotten home from our prayer meeting at church. My husband is usually with me, but that day we had a different schedule. Shortly after I had pulled in the driveway, I saw him pulling in as well. One of our daughters was in the front seat and one of our “sons” was in the first row back sitting right in the middle. We have a twelve-passenger van. They got out happy with donuts, joking around with each other and I’m standing there waiting for our son to get out too, but they shut the doors and locked the van. I smiled and said, “Is there anyone else in the van? Did anyone else go with y’all?” “No,” Mark said, “everyone else is still asleep.” Ha. Well, I know there was someone else in there. It was an angel sitting on the first row back with a white “shirt” and short brown hair. That’s why I had mistaken him for my son. I was in awe. He must have been on assignment.

Angels Unseen –

This is mainly the way we will live. Since angels are on assignment from the Lord and accomplishing his tasks, they are unconcerned with whether we see them. They would rather not be seen. It is the Lord that allows us to see and encounter them, for his purpose. But I have discovered that the Lord will allow me to feel the touch of an angel more than I see.

There are beautiful stories and there are funny stories.

The beautiful ones are when I am praying in my prayer closet and can feel the hand of an angel on me. It is usually the sensation of coolness or at times it can be heat. But remember what angels are? Messengers. Ministering spirits sent to those who will inherit salvation. They are doing their job, to bring whatever the Lord is sending to me. Encouragement, strength, joy. Their ministry happens in public too. One time the Lord’s presence came so strong into the church before we began, that I fell under the power of God and in the same breath as my friend released the words “the angels of joy are here” I began to laugh and laugh. They had come to bring joy. Our God is so beautiful and full of good gifts.

Funny encounters have been when I was beginning to be very aware of the angel that is assigned to me. One day as I was driving down the street, I turned a corner, was going about my business and felt two quick squeezes on my ankle. I looked down and nothing was there. As a result, I let off the gas and looked up to see a policeman parked in the median. I had turned into a school zone not going quite slow enough. I laughed because I believe it was my angel helping me out giving me a heads up that day.

Another time, I was going to a bible study that I knew I did not have time for in my schedule. After a couple times, when I was walking out the door, I felt this shove on my leg. I just laughed and told the person with me, “I think my angel just shoved me out the door!” I did not return.

Angels in Disguise –

These are two fun stories too. A good while back, I served in our former church for seven years as the Bible Rotation lead for Vacation Bible School. We planned and made it exciting for the various age groups. It was the first year that we had installed black lights and were greatly looking forward to using them. Part of the them was an undercover agency with a lab to make discovers. My heart was set on getting white lab coats, but since it was a last-minute creative idea, it would be hard to find. The closest thing I could think of was to try Goodwill, a shop that took local donations. I went into the store, told the associate what I was looking for and she pointed me to the area that might have some. None. There were none. I was bummed because VBS started Monday and this was Saturday. I turned to leave and all of the sudden I heard a woman from far down the aisle, across the store start saying, “Ma’am. Ma’am!” I turned around. She was talking to me, flagging me down. As she rolled up, she had two things in her basket. Her hair was short, uncombed and was wearing homely clothes. She came up to me and said, “You’re looking for lab coats?” Shocked, I said, “Yes. Yes, I am.” I was so confused. No was near when I told the employee what I was looking for. The lady told me, “Go to Taylor. To the store there (it was only there for a few months, and I do not remember the name). They have white lab coats on the rack in the middle of store. And they are 40 percent off.” “Really?! Okay, thank you. I’ll go there right now,” I said. I headed the car and told my husband, “I think I just met an angel.” We went there immediately and found them exactly where she described. And they were 40 percent off! Jesus wanted us to have those for spiritual impact at VBS but I needed help. So, I believe he sent his angel to help me. It was an awesome week with the children where some gave their life to Christ! I am grateful that God cares about lab coats. It was his idea anyway. Ha.

A different year after VBS, we had a carnival celebration outside with all the children and parents. Most had hot dogs, chips and lemonade. I had no responsibilities that night because I had served with the Bible Team that week. After a while, as I was walking around I noticed an old lady sitting by herself. We are from a small town and I had been at our church for many years, so I knew most people. As busy as the event was, I noticed that she did not have any food or drink. So, I went to her and asked, “Would you like anything to eat or drink? Water or lemonade?” She chose lemonade. When I returned, I bent down to hand it to her. I looked her straight in the eyes and as she thanked me, she winked with a head nod. It was the kindest, most affirming wink I’ve ever received. I still remember the whiskers on her chin. Later she was gone and I never saw her again. I felt like the Father had sent an angel to test me. After a busy week of service, would I see the one? Would I see the one that was thirsty? And when I saw her, would I stop? “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!” Hebrews 13:2 (NLT) Thank you Jesus that you always see the one.

Let me pray for you

Father, in Jesus Name, I lift up this reader to you right now. I pray Lord, that as they increase in love for you that you would increase the angelic activity around them. Send your holy angels to minister to them and bring them joy, resources, connections and healing from heaven. Let it be all to your glory and your glory alone.

(Hold out your hands in front of you)

Pray this prayer

Heavenly Father, this is my offering. I give you my life for the purpose of serving your kingdom. Today, I open up my heart to you to receive the angelic help I need to fulfill my destiny. Forgive me for any confusion or lack of trust I’ve had in the past. I realize that this is part of your Kingdom and I want to experience the fullness of you. Teach me, Holy Spirit, and protect me. I am yours. You are mine. I want to partner with you for the harvest. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, amen.

AMEN! Wow. This a new day. I release the glory of God over you right now. The compassion of Jesus, the love of the Father and the will to fight and stand firm til the end. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Hallelujah. We praise you Jesus.

As you can see, God is so big, and his kingdom is so vast. He wants us to know him in his fullness, so as he invites you in, give him your yes and you will discover that this is an adventure of a lifetime. Suffering and persecution? Yes, that too. But as Heidi Baker recently said, “Suffering and joy are in the same cup.” Lord, help us learn your ways as we lean into your chest like John the Beloved. Find us faithful and willing to stay the course and not abandon ship when it gets tough. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, amen.

God bless you abundantly! Ephesians 3:20-21 (NJKV) “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
