
What keeps you going? What have you found in life that is a constant source of stability, beauty, favor, faithfulness, joy, and love? Or better yet…who? Who have you found to be all those things?
A couple weeks ago as I was waking up, a word dropped in my spirit. Indelible.
Indelible. I knew it was an important, deep word but I had to look it up to see the actual definition. Why would the Lord want to talk about “indelible?”
The Oxford Language Dictionary defines indelible as:
adjective
- (of ink, a pen, etc.) making marks that cannot be removed. “an indelible marker pen”
- not able to be forgotten. “his story made an indelible impression on me”
My heart began to ponder. And by that I mean thinking between the ten minutes I drop the kids at school and before I arrive at work. “Indelible, Lord? Indelible….”
And there it was. It hit me. His indelible LOVE. It’s his love that has marked me! By definition – 1. making marks that cannot be removed 2. not able to be forgotten.
I could safely say it is both.
My heart has without a doubt encountered the indelible love of God. I have been marked by Jesus in ways that can never be removed. And those encounters are not able to be forgotten.
That’s what keeps ME going.
My son has recently been enjoying classic country music and as I type my mind is bombarded with some classic country song lyrics –
“It’s your love
It just does somethin’ to me
It sends a shock right through me
I can’t get enough
And if you wonder
About the spell I’m under
Oh, It’s your love”
Okay, minus the spell part…lol. But seriously. I could sing that to Jesus.
A little George Strait to remind us of our Father’s love –
And he said, “Let me tell you a secret about a father’s love,
A secret that my daddy said was just between us.”
He said, “Daddies don’t just love their children every now and then.
It’s a love without end, amen, it’s a love without end, amen.”

“But I love the way you love me.
Strong and wild, slow and easy.

Sounds like the love of the Holy Spirit.
Come Away with Me, Nora Jones. Sailing by Christopher Cross. I could go on and on. And don’t go get religious on me. God speaks in many ways, even through secular music at times. I do love me some good ‘ole Baptist hymns.
Bottom line…
I love my husband. I love my kids. I’m loved by my husband and I’m loved by my kids. But we all know there is a limit to the depth of any human relationship. That’s why man, woman, boy and girl are all called into rich fellowship with their Creator. To really experience this inerasable love of God. Love that makes a mark so permanent on your heart it cannot be removed.
Verse 19 is my favorite here because it’s the invitation of a lifetime of intimacy with the Father. The secret to abiding.
Ephesians 3:16-21 (NIV) – emphasis mine
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
If you cannot honestly say you have experienced the indelible love of God, today is your day. And if these words listed below as similar words don’t describe your relationship with Jesus, I pray you accept his invitation to be loved and fully known. To KNOW, means to experience, this love that SURPASSES knowledge. To see what he has done on the cross for you as truth and be transformed.
Embrace this truth on your behalf – “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)
