In a world with so many voices right now, the last thing I want to be to you is noise. There’s a place the Spirit of God is inviting us to. Will you go to the river with me? The river of life. The streams of living water. You can have you own place at the bank. I won’t interrupt your time. I know it’s special.
(If you can, pause and put this on while you read – “River Instrumental Soaking Worship”)
Can we take a moment to sit, breathe and thank God for what he has done in our lives; how faithful he has been? Can we allow ourselves to be swept away in his love for a moment and let the world do what it does?
Can you hear the voice of the Lord whispering, “It’s me. I love you. Don’t forget about me.”
Can you hear his promises wash over you in Psalm 23?
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.
The absurdity of “wanting” all washes away when the LORD is our shepherd. He’s got our back at every turn. Every need met. Every desire met. Every foe vanquished. Even right in front of your enemies you are taken care of. Goodness. Mercy. And the ultimate promise for those that are in Christ – “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Can you feel him near? He loves when we remember his promises. He loves when we take him at his Word. Look next to you. See him sitting at the river bank with you. “There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.” (Psalm 46:4 NKJV) Since we are a citizen of heaven, in Christ we have access to this river. What privilege.
If you are a Christian and feeling alone right now in the world, I want to remind you what God reminded Elijah the prophet when he was hiding from Jezebel after the display of the power of the Most High God at Mt. Carmel.
“Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” (1 Kings 19:18 NKJV)
See, Elijah thought he was the only one left. He thought he was the only one standing. Oh, how he was mistaken. He was not alone. There were 7,000 others who had not bowed the knee to Baal. (see 1 Kings 19:10 NKJV)
What does this have to do with the river? Why am I bringing this up in your place of rest and promises?
Why? Because it matters. It matters right now that we know we are not alone. You’re not the only one standing for righteousness. You’re not the only one pleading the blood of Jesus over this nation. No, look down the bank and see your brothers and sisters in Christ. Don’t listen to the lie that you’re alone and the only one standing.
See their glances? Catch their eyes. They smile back at you and understand the need to sit at the river right now. We all need the refreshment of his Presence. And we all need to know we are not alone. We are a body, being formed into the image of Christ, becoming that pure and spotless Bride he is returning for. Oh, glorious Day.
So, lean down. Splash the water on your face. Let his Word refresh you. Let his Presence refresh you.
Stand for righteousness. Stand for peace. Stand in his glory. You’re not alone.
It’s time to go to the river. And you can go anytime. In Christ, you’re always welcome.
Let me pray for you –
Lord, we praise you for your Presence. In Jesus Name I ask that you fill this believer with your peace right now and restore any broken places they need as they sit with you at the river. I pray, Holy Spirit, that you would fall on them as they read and if they have never felt the manifest presence of the Lord, will you touch them now as they open up their hearts to you by faith? Thank you, Lord. Amen.
“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21 NKJV)
